SO WHAT THE HECK IS A “GICLEE”, AND WHY IS IT A GOOD INVESTMENT OPTION?
A Giclée (zhee-clay) is a top-of-the-line digital print of an original painting and generally referred to as a “fine art print”.
Derived from the French word ‘gicleur’ (meaning “to squirt”), the development of giclée print technology around 1990 has practically replaced traditional print formats such as lithographs and serigraphs. The term Giclée is now widely used to mean any fine-art printing, usually archival, printed by inkjet.
SPECIAL FEATURES OF GICLEES:
PRICE
A fine art Giclée print is a viable investment when the cost of purchasing original artwork is out of reach. Since the giclée can be produced on demand based on desired size, it also makes online ordering extremely efficient.
RESOLUTION
A professional giclée printer boasts a resolution much higher than standard digital photos created with desktop inkjet printers. Paired with a
finer spray, the smoothness and sharpness of the print is substantially more sophisticated because the more dots of color, the more detailed your final image will appear.
COLOR
Great color rendition is another wonderful hallmark of giclée prints! Professional grade giclée printers use 10 to 12 ‘pigment’ inks, allowing for finer gradients and vivid color depth. For comparison, desktop inkjet printers use only up to 6 ‘dye’ inks.
SUBSTRATE OPTIONS
Giclée can be printed on a variety of substrates (surfaces), such as high-quality paper or artist-grade canvas. One great advantage is that all giclée prints are archival, meaning that they will never yellow or deteriorate
LONGEVITY
Amazing as it sounds, a giclée print will last 100 years or more without degradation of inks or fading of color!
