WHY DO I PAINT?

I believe we all need a place of solace and sanctuary that is our refuge… our ultimate “happy place”.  For many it can be gardening, hiking in nature, cooking, or even getting lost in a good book for hours on end.  And while I love to do many  of those things, I always turn to painting as my way of finding inner harmony.

My paintings evolve from intuition and require that I am fully in touch with where I am in the moment.  Of course I get distractions like all artists, but the sweet spots always occur when I am in focus mode!  I’m sure we all agree that being fully present these days is especially challenging in a world where social media and constant stimulation are the norm…. and creating art is my total distraction from the chaos.

Hearing the Whisper

I’ve always considered myself a “seeker”,both in art and in life, and I delight in exploring new techniques and approaches to express myself creatively.  Driven by curiosity, my “toolbox” of brushes, squeegies, and found objects from kitchen drawer to twigs in nature are my treasure chest of new artistic opportunities ~ the fun is in experimenting!

Most recently, I have been exploring the use of handmade collage papers (new  Studio Note blog on this soon) and it’s such a fabulous way to add layers of complexity and textural nuances to my work.

Each creation embodies a metaphor for life and my quest for understanding and personal growth.  It is truly my “happy place”. Is there any question why I PAINT?
